One of the first steps towards intercultural competence is to recognize that we are all susceptible to unconscious bias and need support in understanding and overcoming hidden prejudices. This course examines the key characteristics and different kinds of unconscious bias that can influence our relationships in cross-cultural situations. Participants will learn why the brain receives and processes information in a biased manner, how to recognize unconscious bias and the benefits of doing so and how bias affects attitudes, behavior and decision making.

Topics include:

·         Analyzing the neuroscience of a productive brain

·         Understanding the characteristics and reasons of unconscious bias

·         Examining the different kinds of unconscious bias

·         Recognizing unconscious bias in the intercultural setting and how to manage it
