This course offers an introduction to Environmental Justice (EJ) by combining theoretical foundations with case studies and collaborative group work. We explore current Environmental and Climate Justice cases in Germany and across the planet, discussing topics such as colonialism, green capitalism, resistance and the historical roots of the EJ movement. During the whole course a central focus lies on examining how power relations shape environmental politics and activism.

Throughout the semester, students work in small groups to develop their own case studies, contributing to the EJ Atlas - an online platform to document EJ cases - through their independent research. By engaging with key readings, discussions, and activist practices, participants will learn to connect theory with practice and to understand EJ as both a political movement and a vision for collective transformation.
