Resilience in Times of Polycrisis: A Social Sciences Lens on Individual, Community and State Dynamics

Inhalt

Students are invited into an engaging, participatory, and critical exploration of how individuals, communities, and institutions navigate interwoven crises. The course unpacks the concept of polycrisis by examining its historical roots, defining features, and diverse fields of application. While we address various (poly)crises — including the war in Ukraine and COVID19 particular attention is devoted to the environmental polycrisis. Through readings, visual media, case studies, and interactive activities, we examine the related uncertainty, risks, emotions, communication, and social cohesion, and reflect on how digital technologies shape crisis perception and response. Visual and movementbased exercises will complement scientific reflections. Mind maps and case studies will span individual, community, and institutional levels, including the analysis of the EU Preparedness Union Strategy. An equivalent to B2 level of English is expected.
