Omar Hussein Shoeb was born in the United States as the son of Egyptian parents. Mr. Shoeb, along with his family, returned to the Middle East, where he grew up in Saudi Arabia, and later moved back to his homeland, Egypt.
From 2001 to 2005 he studied journalism and mass communication at the Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and from 2006 to 2007 TV broadcast journalism at the University of Miami, USA. In 2007, he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for television broadcast journalism. Shoeb wrote his thesis during his job at CNN International where he worked as segment producer at International Desk, Inside Africa and the copy desk. After his studies, he worked in various media fields, including print and online journalism, advertising, and public relations. His graduation project was a first in Egypt. He produced, directed and wrote a 30-minute documentary about the Darfur crisis, where as a 20-year-old, he traveled to the war-ridden region and toured the region at the epitome of the war. From 2007 to 2009 he worked as a lecturer for web writing, news and broadcast writing, introduction to journalism, video and studio production at the Modern Science and Arts (MSA) University in Egypt. Furthermore, he worked as freelance writer at Al-Jazeera International´s website from 2008 until now.
After several activities as producer and executive producer, he currently participates in several productions of the TV magazine ONTV. Since February 2012, Shoeb is head of online operations of Nile Radio Productions (NRP). He had built up the department and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of both internal team members and off-site freelancers performing interactive builds, updates and maintenance of digital platforms that present in-house and user-generated content for on-air programmes. Shoeb set the overall strategy for NRP online and is responsible for the commercial business. He established a full-blown credible online identity for NRP and developed and implemented an online brand management plan, set a cohesive social media strategy for NRP across all channels, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, etc. Furthermore, he assists the sales teams to sell the value of NRP online and social media investment to its clients.
